We had a busy and exciting week in Room 10.
On Monday we had our field trip to the Belmont Library. I posted a blog update about our trip on Wednesday.
On Tuesday we had a writers workshop lesson and we wrote about our field trip to the library. After each field trip the children will write a field trip reflection piece. At the end of the school year we will send their work home as a memory book.
On Wednesday we worked on our letter of the week journals. Our letter for this week was H.
When we work in our letter of the week journals, the learners will be using our very special crayons. I shared with the children that when they use these crayons something magical happens and they all become an artist. Needless to say they love using the crayons.
On Thursday we began center time. Each week on Thursday we will have math tiles, cooking, and slingerland review/phonics. This week the kinders cooked and had math tiles. The first graders had math tiles and they reviewed their uppercase slingerland letters. The cooking project for this week was making homemade mini pizzas! Thank you to our wonderful parent volunteers! Enjoy the photos!
After recess on Thursday we had a very special author visit. Kathryn Otoshi author of “Beautiful Hands” and several other books spoke to the K/4 children in the old gym. She shared so many wonderful things about her life and her books.
During 1st grade math time we have been working on and reviewing our number formation and playing math games to reinforce our number sense. We also had a few number talks, and continued with the current theme of looking at dot patterns on cards. After looking at the dot pattern for 3 seconds, they raise their hand and share how many dots they think they saw and also share what strategy they used to count the dots. The strategies we have covered so far are grouping, and counting on.
