We have had a very busy week.  We have been working on our daily routines and classroom expectations.  We went on a tour of the school, and their favorite place on campus was the school library.  We also began our daily mindfulness lesson/practice.  For the Kinder parents, I went to a mindfulness week-long training during the summer of 2014 and I incorporated a mindfulness practice into our daily classroom lives last year.  The first graders were eager to begin mindfulness again.  Lastly we started the conversation that will end with our classroom agreements.  This week we are concentrating on and discussing “why we come to school” and “what we want to learn this year.”  Today we had a lively discussion about what “work” they think we will do in school this year.  Here is a list of what we discussed in our class meeting:

we will make magic books

we will learn about butterflies and ladybugs

we will learn about poems

we will learn about our listening center

we will be learning about mindfulness

we will learn to write, read,  and do math

we will learn about Slingerland

we will learn about spanish, music, P.E.,  art, and library

Also Ron my precious husband came for his first visit of the school year.  He read the children the book “Bad Dog Marley” and he changed the name of the dog and family members in the book to match our family names.  Needless to say he truly captured the attention of your children.  He LOVES to visit our classroom and he tries to visit a few times each month.  He also brought our very calm and extremely loving dog named Hazel.  It was certainly fun-filled day!
