We had a most amazing field trip to Natural Bridges in Santa Cruz. Thank you to the wonderful field trip coordinators and drivers who made this day possible! I really appreciate your continued support!
After our long drive to Santa Cruz, we arrived at Natural Bridges and we all enjoyed a lovely snack. Then we went down to the beach to run and play before our tour of the butterfly habitat. Here are some photos of the children enjoying special moments on the beach. It was fun to see them so excited and happy to be at the beach.
After we enjoyed our time on the beach it was time for our tour of the butterfly habitat. It began with a short lesson in front of the visitors center. Then we went inside and learned all about the life cycle of a butterfly. The docent did a nice job explaining each stage in detail and we had three wonderful parent volunteers who dressed-up in costumes to show the stages of the life cycle of a butterfly. The children were very eager and excited to learn.
FYI – We will be studying Life Cycles from April to June in 2015, but unfortunately the butterflies will not be at Natural Bridges in April that is why we had this field trip in November.
After our lesson in the visitors center we went outside to the butterfly habitat. It was so incredibly magical to be in the habitat. I have gone on this field trip many times and every single time I find myself in awe when we walk into the habitat. There is nothing quite like it. The learners were in awe as well, I wish you could have seen how quiet and peaceful they were in the habitat. The docent even remarked to me, how impressed she was that our class was so calm and respectful in the butterfly habitat. She asked the learner to be as quiet as possible and to walk quietly. They did exactly what she asked and as you can tell from the photos it was quite wonderful to experience it as a class.
Our memorable day ended with lunch on the picnic tables before our long drive back to CLC. Thank you again for your support!
