This morning we began our two week garden project of building Fairy Houses in the garden. I read the children the book “Fairy Houses” by Tracey Kane. After the story we had a wonderful discussion on what is and what is not a Fairy House. We decided as a class that our Fairy Houses would be created without using artificial materials. We also decided we would not use living materials – which means we will not pick flowers or other living items from our garden at school or at home for our Fairy Houses. We will be making our Fairy Houses next Monday, November 3. The children are allowed to bring in items from home to create their Fairy Houses.
After our garden time we returned to the classroom for circle time. Then the first graders read their autobiography poems out loud to the kinders. They did a wonderful job. The kinders are about half way completed with writing their poems.
For math time today we spent time learning / reviewing the names of different geometric shapes. The children had lots of fun picking out the shapes and then giving the correct mathematical name for the shape.
We also spent time making different geometric patterns and discussing their shapes and attributes.
After lunch time we had our regular guided reading, listening center, and phonics lessons. Here are photos of the children at each activity.
