We had a very busy week of activities and learning in Room 10. On Monday we had our second slingerland letter/lesson for the kinders, we learned the letter l and reviewed h. For our social studies lesson on Monday, we made a portrait of our family and we wrote about the prompt “I love my family because….”

Our garden lesson on Monday involved choosing and then visualizing themselves as either a plant, fruit, vegetable, or tree, (it could also be an imaginary plant or bush etc… ) During the lesson all of the children laid down on the ground in the garden. I read them a visualization, so they could visualize in their mind, the process of starting as a seed and growing into their plant. At the end of our visualization they shared what seeds they were and the list was quite creative. Here are some photos of our garden time.

This week we continued learning about graphs and how to collect data. We had several lessons on tally marks. On Thursday we had a wonderful math talk on how we can use tally marks to help us count and add up information. Here is a photo of the first graders getting ready for a math talk.

We also continued with our wonderful number knight stories. The number for this week was 3. Three can be a difficult number to write, so we took our time practicing our number three formation.
