On Tuesday the learners had a fun math lesson with our pattern blocks. We reviewed all of the mathematical names of the different geometric shapes. Then they choose to either work on their own or in a small table group. The classroom was filled with excitement as they were creating different patterns and designs with the pattern blocks.
This morning we read our first story from our “L, M, N, O, P and All the Letters A to Z” book. We will be using this book for our letter study and phonics lessons. To compliment our letter study, we will also use the “Phonics They Use” book/program which is why we are starting our letter study with the letter M poem. We began our lesson with making a list of every word we could think of that started with the letter M. Then we read the poem several times, and as a class we underlined every M in the poem. Tomorrow morning the learners will be drawing a picture in their letter of the week journals of the beautiful mountain. The poem is about a mountain top. I will post photos from the book of the poem and mountain.
I also wanted to post some photos of free choice time. The children learn so much through play. It can be difficult at times through an adult lens to really see all that happens when children are given the gift of free play. I call it a gift because it truly is a gift for the children to learn about the world around them through play.
