This morning we planted potatoes during our garden time. The learners were extremely excited for this project and lesson to begin. The lesson began with learning about potatoes and how they grow. We learned that potato plants have leaves, stems, roots, and tubers. We also discussed what types of food are made from potatoes. The list was quite extensive. We also learned about other roots vegetables that grow in our gardens.
This is going to be a wonderful project and I am just as excited about it as the learners. We will be spending the next several weeks and months watching our potatoes grow. Each K/1 classroom planted potatoes today. Jessica and Jami class planted potatoes in the garden beds, Gina and I planted potatoes in tubs. It will be exciting to see all of our potatoes grow and hopefully in three months all four classrooms will have a bounty of potatoes to enjoy.
After our time in the garden we had music. Ruth had a wonderful lesson for the learners about different musical instruments. During her lesson each child had an instrument and as they sang a song they also played their instruments to the beat of the music.
