This morning we began a special three week project on creating their “own” seed during garden time.  It started with reviewing all that we had learned about seeds over the past five weeks during garden time.  Then I read them the book “A Fruit Is A Suitcase For Seeds” by Jean Richards.  This is a wonderful story about seeds which discusses in detail how seeds travel, and grow. We learned some important information such as:  What is the difference between a fruit and a vegetable?, Do all fruits come from flowers?, and Why don’t seeds grow in your tummy?  These questions lead to some wonderful discussions in the garden.  Before we left the garden for part two of our lesson we took a class photo and discussed how different the garden looks now compared to August when school began.  When we returned to the classroom I shared that on 12/11 and 12/18 each table group will be creating their own seeds. They will need to choose a name for their seed and share how their seed will travel and grow.  On 12/18 each table group will share their seed stories with the class.  The attached photos are of the learners in the garden and a photo of the supplies they will be using to create their seeds.

During music time with Ruth they decided on the three songs that they will be singing for you next week at our Family Potluck Celebration on 12/12.  The attached photo was taken at the beginning of music time when they were singing one of their favorite songs “Make New Friends.”
